frequented destinations in the Indian subcontinent. Famed UNESCO World
Heritage sites like the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and the closely located

Climate & Best Time to Visit
Summer months, especially May and June, are hot with temperatures reaching
a maximum of 45 degrees centigrade. Monsoons hit the city in the months of
July and August. November to February is the winter time. During winters,
temperature drops down to a minimum of 6 degrees centigrade. You can visit
the city either between January and April or between September and December.

» Taj Mahal : Needless to say, the Taj Mahal is the
iconic structure of the city. Built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the snowy
edifice epitomises the brilliance of the Mughal architecture. A visit to the
Taj on a full moon night is an experience of a lifespan for one and all.
» Agra Fort : Built in red sandstone, the Agra Fort
is the next major draw for tourists at Agra. The construction of the fort
was begun by Mughal emperor Akbar himself. Later, emperors Jahangir and Shah
Jahan made additions in the form of palaces and mosques that the fort
encloses.

Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daula : Erected by empress Nur Jahan, Mughal emperor
Jehangir's wife, the tomb enshrines the empress' father. Constructed between
1622 and 1628, the tomb is known for its delicate marble work.
» Chini Ka Rauza : It enshrines Afzal Khan, the
prime minister at Akbar's court. Built of glassy tiles, the tomb follows the
Persian style of architecture. The monument stands 1 kilometre north of the
Itimad-ud-Daulah's tomb.

The Kheria Airport of Agra is at a distance of 7 km from the city centre.
There are regular flight services between Agra and the other key
destinations of the country. An air-journey from Agra to Delhi takes around
40 minutes. The Agra Cantonment Station has trains running to the major
states and cities of the country. An excellent road-route links Agra with
places like Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Jhansi, Gwalior etc.
