
Formerly
known as Madras, the 350-year-old city of Chennai is the capital of the
state of Tamil Nadu. The city saw its growth under the influence of the
English settlement of Fort Saint George. However, over time, it soaked up

town is delimited by Old Jail Road and Cilve Battery on its north.

connoisseurs, the National Art Gallery offers a fascinating exhibit of the
relics of the past. Major attractions at the gallery include bronze carvings
from 10th and 13th centuries, Rajasthani and Mughal paintings from 16th-18th
