Due to its high altitude, Dharamshala has a temperate climate. The maximum
temperature during summers records 40 degrees while in winters the minimum
can be around 0 degree centigrade. July to September is the time of the
monsoon which is prominent feature of the hill station's weather. October to
December or March to June can be the ideal time to visit here.
Sightseeing in Dharamshala
» Mcleod Ganj : The place is a must-visit for
tourists arriving at Dharamshala. The residence of His Holiness Dalai Lama
is located here. Besides, it has a number of residential buildings, eating
outlets, Tibetan institutions and a number curio shops.
» Chamunda Devi Temple : The temple, dedicated to
goddess Chamunda Devi, is at a distance of 15 km from Dharamshala. From
here, you can also enjoy fascinating views of the mountains and surrounding
places like the Baner Khud, Pathiar and Lahla forests.
» St John's Church : At a distance of 8 km from
Lower Dharamshala, the church is positioned on the road connecting McLeod
Ganj and Forsyth Ganj. Here, you can also see the monument of Lord Elgin,
the former Viceroy of India.
» Kangra Art Museum : The Kangra Valley of Himachal
Pradesh has been a place of rich art and craft. The museum exhibits an
interesting collection of artifacts belonging to the 5th century.

Getting There
Gaggal Airport, the closest one, is at a distance of 13 km from the town.
The nearest railhead from Dharamshala is Pathankot which is 85 km. From
Pathankot, it takes just three hours to get to Dharamshala. One can avail of
regular luxury bus services running to Dharamshala from Delhi (520 km) and
Shimla. There are buses from Manali to Dharamshala as well.
