Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Wildlife fanciers never fail to include a trip to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, on their holidays in Kerala. The sanctuary, a Shangri-la for bird watchers, is positioned on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, a wetland of international repute. The sanctuary claims an area of 14 acres and shelters varied species of both domestic and migratory birds. The town of Kottayam is just 12 km from here.

Other commonly sighted species include larks, parrots, wood beetles, teal etc.
